Green Bay Packers vs Denver Broncos–First Impressions UNFILTERED! Packers 49, Broncos 23

The Green Bay Packers (3-0) face off against the Denver Broncos at Lambeau Field.

The Packers will look for their 10th consecutive win including playoffs, but hope to pull away from their opponent instead of having the game in doubt going late into the fourth quarter.

The Broncos meanwhile are looking to bounce back from another close loss.  Tim Tebow will finally see some action under center today according to reports from the Broncos and are hoping their passing offense will finally come to life.

Pregame Thoughts

Champ Bailey is out for the Broncos.  He likely would have seen some time against Jermichael Finley so this could possibly mean another big game for the Packers tight end.

Word out of Denver that Tim Tebow could see some red zone action today.  I have watched Tebow for a long time and you can’t underestimate his abilities in the red zone.  The Packers have a tendency to struggle against athletic quarterbacks, so this added wrinkle will be interesting to watch.

Very sunny day today at Lambeau. Beautiful day for football.

How many Cheeseheads will have their eyes on their phones checking the Brewers score? I kid. Sort of.

Derrick Sherrod will be the backup to Chad Clifton.  The Packers first round draft pick makes his NFL regular season debut.

Broncos down two WRs with Eddie Royal and Demaryius Thomas inactive.

Packers inactives include RB Ryan Grant, S Nick Collins, LB Jamari Lattimore, LB Frank Zombo, LB Brad Jones, T Bryan Bulaga, DE Mike Neal.

First Half

Glad we got Nantz and Simms. Worried we would have Dierdorf and Gumbel on TV.

Broncos go three and out on first series.  Solid breakup by Tramon Williams on the pass to Decker.

Wow, one punt and a Packers special teams penalty against Alex Green. SHOCKING!

Elvis Dumervil making his presence known pressing Rodgers on that rollout.

BOOM. Rodgers to Jennings for 43 yards.  Can anyone stop the Super Bowl MVP?

Rodgers could have had Jennings for a TD.

Packers go for it on 4th down deep in Denver territory and a pitch to Starks results in a turnover on downs.  Not sure I like the play all there.

TIM TEBOW SIGHTING!  And he is STUFFED.

Packers come out in a Psycho-style defense but Orton completes a third down pass to Lloyd to move the chain.

Orton to Lloyd again for 17.  Packers have to find a way to stop him.

Willis McGahee for 28 yards, the longest run of the year for the Packers.  Balanced Broncos offense keeping Packers on their heels.

Broncos kick the field goal and it is 3-0 Broncos early.

Dumervil looking good early.  Giving Rodgers fits outside the pocket.

Starks turns the corner and burts through Denver defenders for 16 yards.  Showed his power there.

Rodgers to Nelson 50 yard TOUCHDOWN! Killer play action fake and that spin move absolutely killed the Broncos. Throw was only where Nelson could get it and the Packers lead 7-3.

Broncos get the ball back and then Orton right to Woodson for a pick six.  Packers up 14-3.  Very little physical effort from Woodson needed to make that. Too easy.

ONSIDE KICK! AND THE PACKERS RECOVER!  McCarthy not afraid to gamble in this game. Perhaps he is finally going for the kill?

Rodgers drives the Packes down the field and runs it in for the TD and tops it off with the championship belt!

Uh oh. Driver on his back in the end zone after the touchdown. Not sure where he got hit but it looks like a left leg injury.  He put no pressure on his left leg after being helped off the field. NOT. GOOD.

Broncos get the ball back and a flea flicker downfield to Brandon Lloyd! Would have been a touchdown if it would have had more air under it.

Very next play Orton to Decker for a 5 yard touchdown. 21-10 Packers lead.

Von Miller with the sack of Rodgers.  Burned Marshall Newhouse there.

Orton to Lloyd for a long completion but a penalty on Denver brings it back.  Packers defense still on their heels.

Broncos go right back and move down the field and Orton rockets a 33 yard pass to Decker and the Broncos have momentum 21-17. Burnett getting schooled by Decker right now.

On the ensuing possession, Rodgers connects with Jennings to get the ball into Denver territory.

Starks with great awareness after going to the ground and getting a few extra yards.

Rodgers to Jennings again for a touchdown with less than 30 seconds to go in the half.  Packers lead 28-17 and will get the ball in the second half.

Second Half

Driver runs out of the tunnel to the cheers of the Lambeau faithful.  Has a big bullet been dodged?

Driver is even BACK IN THE GAME. Dude is Superman.

Packers come out swinging with nice completions to Finley and Nelson before Miller gets his second sack.

Jones on a great diving catch. That is OUR James Jones, right?

Incomplete on third down, but flag is thrown after Jennings is decked. First down.

Rodgers on a run is stopped short, but McCarthy throws the red flag thinking Rodgers was on the body of a Denver defender as was only down after the ball JUST broke the plane.  This will be a tough one.

Count it. Packers lead 35-17.

Wow. Rodgers is just shredding this Broncos defense.

86 yard drive capped with a 16 yard pass to James Jones. TOUCHDOWN! Packers lead 42-17.

FINALLY the Packers get a sack. Desmond Bishop takes down Kyle Orton.  If it would have been Clay Matthews, Orton’s head may have been separated from his body.

Oops. Deflected pass results in an INT for the Broncos. Not Rodgers’ fault there.

SAM SHIELDS with the pick! And he nearly takes it to the house.  Packers ball at the Broncos 46.

James Starks has definitely made up for last week.

Rodgers has his second 400 yard game of his career.  Jennings now over the century mark.

Touchdown to Donald Driver who limps to the stands and still does a Lambeau Leap.  Fans hold on a little longer to Driver.  The mutual love is obvious.  Teammates mob Driver as he goes back to the sidelines. Packers 49, Broncos 17

TE-BOW! TE-BOW! chants are coming from Lambeau.  Or are we hearing them all the way from Colorado?

Willis McGahee goes over 100 yards. Broncos score a touchdown in garbage time.  2 point conversion no good and the kickoff goes out of bounds.

Flynn in at QB and Alex Green at quarterback. Rodgers finishes the day 29-38 408 yards with 4 TD passes and 2 rushing touchdowns. THAT IS 6 TOUCHDOWNS FOLKS!

BLOW. OUT. Glad to see I was wrong about this one.
