Packers News 10/25/12
Jayme: Order has seemingly been restored in the Packers universe, having managed to string together two victories in a row for the first time this season. Aaron Rodgers has also returned to form with his fourth straight game with a quarterback rating over 100.
Al: Not retuning to form quickly enough has been Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings. Still sidelined by a groin injury he re-aggravated in the Saints game, Jennings sought out a second opinion from a specialist this week. The result was a change of course in treating the injury from rest to surgery. Jennings will undergo surgery next Tuesday and the prognosis is that he will return within a month.
Jayme: Packers injuries dominated the news this week, with Jordy Nelson tweaking a hamstring in practice and the announcement that Charles Woodson has a broken collarbone – the same injury he suffered in the Super Bowl. Woodson will be out for six weeks, while Nelson was held out of practice the last two days and will give the hamstring a test tomorrow.
Al: There’s been a bit of friendly pranking going on among the Packers receiver corps. A while back James Jones decorated Greg Jennings car on his birthday, and filled it up with packing peanuts. This week, Jennings got his revenge. Jones came out to his car after practice and discovered similar decorations with one major difference: his wheels were gone and the car was up on blocks. Jones later jokingly proclaimed, “This means war”
Jayme: In the wake of this week’s tragic shootings at the Azana Spa in Brookfield Wisconsin, Aaron Rodgers and Ryan Braun have promised to hold some type of benefit event for the families of the victims. Rodgers and Braun are partners in a restaurant in Brookfield and expressed a desire to do something to help. Details should be forthcoming soon.
Al: Packers kicker Mason Crosby, he of the strong leg, has struggled from distance this season, missing three out of four tries from 50+ yards while making a perfect 7 of 7 from under that distance. Yesterday, Crosby spent his practice time kicking nothing but 50+ yard kicks, focusing on , in Shaun Slocum’s words, “keeping the same rhythm and tempo.” Hopefully, that wasn’t something they’ve just thought of now…
Jayme: Those were your Packers news stories for the week. Cheesehead Radio now brings you .
“Gems from the Packers Twitterverse…”
Jayme: Wisconsinites have earned a bit of a reputation for liking their alcohol. Green Bay-native & current Colorado resident Chad Jolly ( @chadjolly ) highlighted this fact when he tweeted, “You know you’re at a Packer bar when people are getting cut off at 1pm.”
Al: We just can’t seem to keep the Packer Ranter out of the best tweets list, and this week is no different. Commenting on the Packers’ next opponent, The Ranter had this to say, I’ve read that you can train Jaguars to use a litter box, so, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, they can be coached.
Jayme: A twitter person called Julius Sharpe made this comment on Twitter: @juliussharpe: It’s ridiculous that NFL players can’t squeeze Gatorade into their own mouths. That brought on this quick retort from Tom Crabtree: shutup – we are tired, ok?
Al: Commenting on the major news stories of then week, Rahim Tariq had this to say, “ At this rate we’ll reach a point where it’s easier for McCarthy to just tell us the healthy players
I think we’re there Rahim, and that earns you the…
