Packers vs. Lions Week 5 Game Predictions from AllGreenBayPackers.com

GAME PREDICTIONS
Week 5: Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions
Name Record To-Date This Week’s Pick Score Prediction
Kris Burke 1-2 Detroit Lions 41-38
Someone has to be the black sheep of the group. The Packers defense has had a lot of trouble stopping that one weapon everyone knows they have to stop and I right now have zero confidence in Dom Capers’ group to get it done against both Reggie Bush and Calvin Johnson. Hopefully they prove me wrong.
“Jersey” Al Bracco 1-2 Green Bay Packers 31-30
My record matches the Packers, which tells you I have a hard time picking against them. I came very close here, as I feel like the Lions are finally playing to their talent level. However, the Packers will pull this one out with, yes, a game-winning TD drive by Aaron Rodgers.
Adam Czech 2-1 Green Bay Packers 31-26
My wife is due to give birth to our first child on Saturday. That means the Packers will win for sure, right?
Marques Eversoll 2-1 Green Bay Packers 34-24
The Lions have enough offensive talent (Bush, Johnson, Bell) to frustrate the Packers defense. But fortunately for the Packers, I don’t see how Detroit’s cornerbacks will adequately match up with Green Bay’s offensive weapons. This could be a big day for Randall Cobb. And Jordy Nelson. And maybe James Jones and Jermichael Finley, too. Packers get a much-needed win.
Thomas Hobbes 1-2 Green Bay Packers 34-27
I’m not predicting a complete points-fest, but don’t expect this to be a defensive battle either.  I think the Lions have the same sort of vibe with the Packers as the Packers have right now with the 49ers, which is no matter what we do, we just can’t beat the Packers at home.  Add to that a overall more healthy team and one that typically doesn’t lose coming out of the bye and the Packers get back to .500 with this one.
Cory Jennerjohn 2-1 Green Bay Packers 34-28
This is the week that Eddie Lacy formally introduces himself to the Lambeau faithful. Detroit is giving up 111 yards a game on the ground and 5 yards per carry. The return of Morgan Burnett to the Packers’ secondary will pay huge dividends in stopping not only Calvin Johnson but also Reggie Bush. But this game will be won by the Green Bay linebackers which will be up to the challenge, barring another Clay Matthews setback.
Jason Perone 3-0 Green Bay Packers 38-36
Points-a’plenty in this one as both secondaries have had their issues (and despite the expected return of Morgan Burnett).  Reggie Bush will give the Packers fits as the one guy that they need to stop, but likely won’t.  The Packers offense will turn to Aaron Rodgers and the passing game to start fast and they should.  Detroit scores late to keep it close but Green Bay emerges victorious.
Chad Toporski 1-2 Green Bay Packers 42-38
Get ready for some offensive fireworks. The Packers defense will have a tough time containing both Reggie Bush and Calvin Johnson, while the Lions will get a taste of the new “1-2 punch” in Lacy and Franklin.

I think the Packers can win this one, but the defenses of both teams will keep scoring down in the mid-twenties.

I think the Packers will have a very strong game this week.

A home crowd makes a big difference, it will slow done the pass rush for them and slow their o-line down.

Also the Packers defense has mostly played well, other than the 49ers game. Shields held up against AJ Green which is good practice for Calvin Johnson. Det. will not have an easy time passing without Burleson and difficult communication. Also Burnett is back, that could be huge.

Bush is an issue, he is a fast guys with great skills. to beat him the offense needs to sustain drives and let the D rest. Eddie lacy should help with that.

      I say Packers 42 lions 24.

McCarthy will keep foot on gas, D will have something to prove. Crowd will be electric.

Adam: it means your wife will have a gruelling 48-hour labor and you’ll be called a pig for watching the game while she’s in pain.

Play all your Packers and Lions in FFL this week! Packers win because the Lions are still prone to the boneheaded mistake. Playing outside, on grass, on the road, after an emotional win over the Bears, against a Packer team coming off the bye and getting healthy…Lions just won’t be as good.

    Packers 45, Lions 34

I have to say, my wife gave birth to our son the night of the Seattle preseason game and it was on in the room the entire time. He waited till it was over to emerge. He already knew he didn’t want to have to look at Pete Carroll

Steve: I need to see if I can handle one before thinking about more.

Dobber: My wife is a crazier Packers fan than I am. If I’m NOT watching the game while she gives birth, she’ll call me a pig.

Jason: Good thing your son didn’t have to look at Pete Carroll as soon as he emerged from the womb.

We will need a defensive score to win.

Packers need to get out to an early lead and keep Reggie Bush off the field with time consuming, hopefully, scoring drives. As usual the O-line will be the key. Bush can score from anywhere on the field as a runner or receiver. Rodgers usually puts up 28+ plus points at home and Lions have weak secondary. A turnover or 2 by the defense will help as well. Packers 37- 27 to get to 2-2. I will be traveling so I will miss the game live. Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since ’61

    • Stroh says:

If the Packers get out to an early lead and a big one, say 2 TD’s or more, why on earth would the Lions take a terrific receiving playmaking matchup nitemare like Bush off the field? The guy can play WR if they want him to and probably be their #2 WR at it. Bush would be on the field w/o fail if the Lions get behind!! He’s not a one-dimentional run only RB, he’s like a better version of Sproles for Gods Sake!!

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 2 Thumb down 6

      • Since '61 says:

Stroh – I am saying that the Packers need to keep their offense on the field with long time comsuming drives. This will keep Bush and the Lions offense off the field for as long as possible. Obviously, the Lions will use Bush as much as possible. He is their best weapon so far this season. Sorry to have confused you. Please let me know if you need further clarification. Think about chilling out. Thanks, Since ’61

They need to Score period. Fast or time consuming doesn’t matter. Packers have more weapons that Det. They don’t need to worry about time consuming drives. Now if they had fewer weapons than Det, I might agree w/ you. When you have more weapons you don’t need to worry about time consuming drives. Bush will be on the field no matter if the Packers are up by 2 TD’s or its a close game or if Detroit has a big lead. He gets spelled by Bell and Bell gets the short yardage carries, other than that Bush will be on the field no matter the score.

If anything Detroit should be worried about Long time consuming drives to keep the Packers weapons off the field.

AR usually comes back angry after a bad game, MM has a pretty strong record coming out of byes, and if the Pack can’t get fired up about this one, it might be a long season.

This may actually be decided at the coin flip….the Packers defer and the defense must stop the opening drive of the Lions and then the Packers must score on theirs or the Packers take the ball first and must score and then the Lions need to play catch up against our defense which of coarse is another coin flip of showing up with a pass rush or not.
If the Packers win it won’t be by the 7 points which I’ll be taking in Las Vegas.

    Whoa, whoa, whoa.

You guys picked the Packers? Didn’t you listen to the radio or read the blogs this week? The Lions already won! The Packers shouldn’t even show up. Hell, they should forfeit the rest of the season.

No one can beat the unstoppable Lions.

    Hand them the trophy already!

I may be wrong about this, but haven’t the Packers under MM historically whooped the ever-living crap outta opponents who have the misfortune of playing them after the bye week?

I think this is going to be one of those games where the NFC North is reminded that the Packers are still a good cut above the rest of them.
