According to Will Brinson of CBSSports.com, the NFL will release their 2012  schedule at 7PM EST on NFL Network.  Even if you don’t subscribe to the NFL’s own channel, there will be plenty of places to find the Green Bay Packers 2012 schedule (including right here).

While it has been known for months who the Packers will be playing during the upcoming season, the exact weeks, times and stations of those games has remained unknown.

So, what does this mean for you?

Well, by about 8PM EST tonight, you’ll be able to have every Sunday, Monday, Thursday and possibly Saturday scheduled from the middle of August straight through the cold Wisconsin winter.  In fact, it would probably be wise if you started spending more time with your families and loved ones now to make up lost time during the NFL season.

In case you were wondering, here is a list of opponents that will likely be losing to the Packers once the season begins:

Home – Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans

Away – Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks, New York Giants, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts

The Packers' 2012 opponents are now set in stone.

The 2011 Green Bay Packers are 15-1 and two weeks away from hosting a Divisional round playoff game.

But for the sake of getting the information out, let’s take a quick second to look ahead to the 2012 NFL season. When the New York Giants beat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, the Packers’ opponents for next season became set in stone.

In addition to annual home games against the Detroit Lions (10-6), Chicago Bears (8-8) and Minnesota Vikings (3-13) in the NFC North, the Packers will host the San Francisco 49ers (13-3), Arizona Cardinals (8-8), New Orleans Saints (13-3), Tennessee Titans (9-7) and Jacksonsville Jaguars (5-11) next season.

The winning percentage this season of the eight teams the Packers play in 2012 at lands at .539 (69-59).

The Packers will then have road games against the three NFC North teams, the Houston Texans (10-6), Indianapolis Colts (2-14), St. Louis Rams (2-14), Seattle Seahawks (7-9) and New York Giants (9-7).

What Should I do?

If the Green Bay Packers keep winning, and the upcoming schedule suggests they might, coach Mike McCarthy is going to have some important decisions to make in the coming weeks about his team’s quest to achieve what only two other teams have done since the merger: An undefeated regular season.

We’ve seen a handful of teams reach the point the Packers are currently at. Most recently, the 2009 New Orleans Saints started 13-0 while the Indianapolis Colts began that same season with 14 straight wins. The New England Patriots went undefeated during the 2007 regular season, and both the 2005 Colts and 1998 Broncos started 13-0. We’ll focus on those five teams.

Each coach approached their undefeated starts differently. So many factors go into a coach’s decision to play their starters, rest them or a combination of both that it’s impossible to nail down a way that is guaranteed to succeed. But by studying what went right and wrong for each coach and his choices, we can hopefully paint a picture for McCarthy to use.

Caleb Hanie takes over for Jay Cutler in Chicago.

For a while, it looked like the NFC North might send the Packers, Bears and Lions to the playoffs. There’s a chance that still could happen, but it’s a longshot. With the Packers cruising, the Bears and Lions have some work to do if they want to grab a wild card slot.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings are holding down the bottom of the division while trying to get a new stadium.

It’s time for a trip around the NFC North.

Chicago Bears

Remaining schedule: Chiefs, at Broncos, Seahawks, at Packers, at Vikings.

Biggest issue: Making adjustments. Jay Cutler is out for at least the rest of the regular season, leaving Caleb Hanie to try and lead the Bears to the playoffs.

Analysis: The challenge the Bears face is actually twofold: Is Hanie capable of taking the Bears to the playoffs and is offensive coordinator Mike Martz capable of adjusting his gameplan to maximize Hanie’s strengths and mask his weaknesses?  Read more... Aaron Rodgers rebounded from a slow start, James Jones caught his fifth touchdown pass and the defense played arguably its finest game of 2011 season as the Green Bay Packers took down the Detroit Lions, 27-15, on Thursday at Ford Field.

Here are five observations from the game:

1. Defense states their case

On a day in which the Packers lost Desmond Bishop, A.J. Hawk and Erik Walden at various times, the defense may have played their best game of the 2011 season. Despite giving up over 400 total yards again, the Packers intercepted Matthew Stafford three times and held a shutout into the fourth quarter against an explosive offense on the road. Calvin Johnson, one of the NFL’s best receivers, was held to just four catches for 49 yards and a meaningless garbage time touchdown. Backup inside linebackers D.J. Smith and Robert Francois played surprisingly well in emergency duty. Considering everything involved on Thursday, you could make a strong case this was the Packers most impressive defensive performance of 2011.

When the NFL schedule was first released back in April, the upcoming three games for the Green Bay Packers were of important interest to head coach Mike McCarthy. Because starting on Monday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings, the Packers will play three games in just 11 days.

On November 14th, Green Bay hosts Minnesota at Lambeau Field. The following Sunday (November 20th), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers travel to the frozen tundra, and on November 24th, the Packers take on the Detroit Lions in their annual Thanksgiving Day massacre- I mean, showdown.

This means that following the Vikings game, the Packers will be on short weeks to prepare and rest for each subsequent matchup.

But it gets better.

All three teams are conference opponents, meaning the outcomes will be significant in determining playoff rankings. On top of that, two of the three games are division opponents, which obviously has a direct affect on the Packers’ standing in the NFC North title race.

After facing off with the Minnesota Vikings a mere three weeks ago, Green Bay will be taking their second and final shot at the rebuilding team for the season.
