Players on the Packers Roster You May Not Know – Part 2

Today we bring you part 2 of our series on the least-known Green bay Packers currently on the 2011 roster.

Antonio Robinson, WR 6;1″, 195lbs., Nicholls State. From Miami Florida, Robinson went the Community College route before transferring to Nicholls State, which is known for their triple-option running game. Robinson was the team’s leading receiver two years in a row with 20 and 27 catches, which gives you an idea how little they throw the ball. Robinson ran a 4.50 40 yd dash at his pro day with a 36″ vertical leap. He was the 49th ranked WR out of 276 by NFLDraftScout.com

Robinson was signed as an UDFA by the Bears and released with an injury settlement in training camp. He landed on the Seattle practice squad for two weeks in November before being signed to the Packers’ practice squad a few weeks before the Super Bowl and then to a reserve/future contract in February.

Jay Ross, DT, 6’3″, 302lbs., East Carolina.  C.J. Wilson’s teammate at East Carolina, Jay Ross is a “character” guy with a Capital “C.”  Wilson called him the hardest working guy on the team and his college coach called him the most respected player on the team. He was a three-year starter at East Carolina and earned honorable mention All-Conference USA honors three times. Ross was invited to the NFL Combine, where he ran a 5.10 40 yd dash, a 1.68 10 yd dash and recorded 30 reps on the bench press. Ross was ranked 24th out of 151 DTs by NFLDraftScout.com.

2011 Draft Prep: Green Bay Packers Needs by Position – Defensive Line

In this next installment of our 2011 Draft Prep series looking at the Green Bay Packers’ needs by position, we are going to analyze how the defensive line currently stands. Strengths, weaknesses, depth, and uncertainties will all be examined to determine the urgency of need in regards to next season.

This series is meant to help us figure out the needs of the team and how the draft could be used to improve the weaker areas. While Ted Thompson largely uses the “best player available” (BPA) approach, his decision to trade up or down the board is affected by what position players he would prefer to have. Additionally, the picking up of players in the later rounds and in undrafted free agency is often based on need, since the talent is less defined.
