Packers Mike Daniels Fumble Recovery TD

Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions:

My unfitered game day running blog post of comments, observations and first impressions.

Inactive for Packers today: CB Charles Woodson, LB Clay Matthews, WR Jordy Nelson, DL CJ Wilson, DL Mike Neal, LB Terrell Manning, RB James Starks

Inactive for Lions today:  DT Corey Williams, S Louis Delmas, WR Lance Long, QB Kellen Moore, OT Corey Hilliard, OT Jason Fox, DE Ronnell Lewis

Game Notes:

The Packers have beaten Detroit  in 20 straight regular season games at Lambeau Field – an NFL record.

The Packers have won 10 straight divisional games – a franchise record.

Thanks to the Vikings win over the Bears today, the Packers have a chance to open a two-game lead (with tiebreaker) over Chicago with 3 games left in the season after tonight.

The Packers have only 4 DL active in this game – expect them to play most of the game in nickel or dime with only one or two DL.

Tonight’s weather at Lambeau: 33 degrees, wind 10mph from the east, 92% humidity, light snow through 9pm CT

It’s snowing at game time. I was at the Seattle playoff snow globe game. What a treat fans at the game are in for tonight.

Mike McCarthy Pregame Show on 620 WTMJ:

Divisional games against same team so close together:  You definitely plan for 2 games before the season even starts, we just stuck to our 2-game plan. We’ll have some wrinkles for them and I’m sure they’ll have some for us.

Ryan Grant: He looked very natural coming back – there have been some terminology changes from last year. He’s comfortable with the game plan and I would not hesitate to use Ryan.

TJ Lang: We’re going to work Lang in pre-game and then come back in and make a decision on him.

Bears loss: I’m sure everyone’s aware of it. Hell, we’ve been here all damn day waiting for this game to start.

Lions record: Very talented football team. they have lost a lot of close game.

Stafford:  I think he has a lot of arm talent. Has great confidence – not afraid to stick it in there on tight coverage.

Noon game at home: A great day for football…

Control destiny: Any week you line up and have the ability to achieve your goals you set for the year, it’s a great thing.

Loss a motivator:  No doubt, any time you take a shot like we did, it’s an opportunity. Like Paul’s 2nd letter to the  Corinthians. I’m glad of weaknesses, for when I am weak I am strong.

Jennings: Will have to work him in the flow. Decision was made medically – we’re going to be smart with him. We’re taking him more as a situational and we’ll evaluate more at halftime.

Peterson: What he’s been able to accomplish is a credit to his work ethic, his genetics, the medical staff at Minnesota.

Ponder:  He has big play ability. Athletic – can make plays in and out of the pocket. Very good player with his feet.

Minny pass rush: It’s a key matchup today. We have to establish ourselves in the run and the play action.

OLine: You gotta play football. It’s starts with running the football, off of that play action. Sometimes guys have to win one on ones.

Packers vs. Vikings – First Impressions – First Half:

Vikings win the toss and defer. Unusual for Packers to start the game on offense this year.

Packers showing a good amout of three-wide on the first series – Jennings is not in.

James Jones: ball thief…

Packers favorite play is without a doubt the free play…

Packers vs. Giants – Game Day First Impressions, Unfiltered: NYG 38 GB 10

Green Bay Packers vs. New York Giants:

My unfiltered game day running blog post of comments, observations and first impressions.

Inactive for Packers today: WR Ramses Barden, RB Da’Rel Scott, LB Mark Herzlich, OL Jim Cordle, DE Justin Trattou, DT Jimmy Kennedy, OL James Brewer

Inactive for Giants today: QB Graham Harrell, CB Davon House, LB Rob Francois, OL Herb Taylor, TE D.J. Williams, DE Howard Green, LB Vic So’oto

Game Notes:

The two most recent Super Bowl Champions meet this evening in a highly-anticipated showdown. Many people thought this would be the 2012 season opener, but the Giants ended up hosting the Dallas Cowboys.

While the Packers edged out a victory against the Giants during last season’s Week 13 game, they lost in an embarrassing fashion during the Divisonal Round playoff game. Aaron Rodgers said on his weekly show that he’s not playing for revenge, but some players might be, and most fans are relishing the idea.

The Giants are coming off of their bye week, and a fresh defensive line could be a problem for a recently reshuffled Packers offensive line. This will be the marquee match-up of the night.

Mike McCarthy Pregame Show on 620 WTMJ:

Giants as Common Opponent: It’s definitely usually a big game when we get together. It’s an important game. I like the way our team has been playing and growing.

Dealing with Injuries: You have to give credit to the players. They’re doing everything we’re asking them to do and taking advantage of their opportunities. The coaching staff is doing well getting them prepared.

On Randall Cobb: Another excellent example of a secon- year player being exceptional. Have been planning concepts and wrinkles for him. A top-notch slot receiver who makes plays and positive yards when we put the ball in his hands.

On Casey Hayward: We really made a conscious effort to make sure we got younger players in and started. We didn’t want to go through what we went through last year. Casey is a hell of a football player and is doing a great job in the slot.

Greg Jennings and Clay Matthews: Greg is very close. He felt great and looked good on Thursday. If this was a playoff game, Greg would be out there. Clay is getting close, but we’ll have to see where he is this week.

Packers vs. Cardinals – Game Day First Impressions, Unfiltered: Packers 31, Cardinals 17

Packers

The Packers honored those who serve our country in the military before Sunday’s game against the Cardinals. A big thank you to all who serve, and have served, from all of us at ALLGBP.com.

Green Bay Packers vs. Arizona Cardinals:

Adam Czech here in place of Jersey Al for this week’s first impressions. Al is still dealing with the fallout from Superstorm Sandy and has ordered me to climb down off my deer stand, watch this week’s game, and write about it.

I said, “Yes sir!” So, here is my unfitered game day running blog post of comments, observations and first impressions.

Inactive for Packers today: CB Sam Shields, WR Greg Jennings, S Charles Woodson, LB Frank Zombo, RB John Kuhn, DL Jerel Worthy, LB Nick Perry.

Inactive for Cardinals today: QB Kevin Kolb, WR LaRon Byrd, CB Greg Toler, LB Jamaal Westerman, G Senio Kelemete, G Adam Snyder, TE Todd Heap.

Game Notes:

Welcome back, Jordy Nelson.

Rich Ohrnberger is starting for Adam Snyder at guard for the second game in a row. Snyder is not good and I can’t imagine Ohrnberger is any better. Not good news for a Cardinals’ o-line that is one of the worst in the league.

Aaron Rodgers told Pam Oliver before the game that last week’s “flat” win over the Jags was good for the Packers and hopefully gets the team to up their energy. We shall see.

Packers vs. Cardinals – First Impressions – First Half:

Great kickoff by Crosby, using the sideline to pin the Cards inside their own 20.

Unlike last week, the crowd sounded lively on the third down on the Cards first series. Mike Neal burries Skelton and the Cards have to punt.

More great special teams play gets the Packers to the Cards’ 20.

Starks starting over Green…looked a little indecisive on his first carry. Cut that thing upfield, James.

Once again the offense falls flat on the opening possession and Crosby shanks a FG. Crosby is becoming  serious problem, not just something to give Jersey Al a hard time about.

Brad Jones matched against Larry Fitzgerald is a terrible idea, but it worked this time and the Cards have to punt again.

Switched to Bears-Titans during the commercial and a Titans DB dropped a pick-six from Cutler. Bears are so damn lucky.

Green Bay Packers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars:

Inactive for Jaguars today: RB Montell Owens, RB Maurice Jones-Drew, DE D’Anthony Smith, S Dwight Lowery, DT Jeris Pendleton, CB Derek Cox, WR Laurent Robinson

Game Notes:

Packers roster takes a hit today in the defensive backfield and the wide receivers corps. Youth shall be served…

Today’s captains are WR James Jones, LB Erik Walden and LS Brett Goode.

Wow – 44% of #Jaguars offense since 2010 has been from Maurice Jones Drew

Mike McCarthy Pregame Show on 620 WTMJ:

Noon game at home: Love it. Get up early, smells like football. ..

Woodson loss: We’re talking about someone who has been an impact player every year here. When you lose a guy like Charles, you have to use the next group of players to their strengths. I’m looking for our defense to generate turnovers, create fumbles.

Replacing Woodson: Charles plays in a lot of roles. We’ll individuals focus more on ione position in as opposed to charles playing one, tow three, sometime four

Jennings, surgery: We’re all hopeful it’s going to go well. They don’t think it’s a major issue.

Cobb: He’s a playmaker and gives us versatility. He doesn’t just line up in one spot.

Rodgers last 2 weeks: He’s played very well. I think we all got spoiled by last year. There’s a lot of things we probably wouldn’t do if we didn’t have Aaron Rodgers.

Maurice Jones Drew: He’s a fun player to watch – glad I’m not watchng him today. Dynamic, unique guy you can build an offense around

Gabbert:  First thing I’ve always been impressed with is his ability to throw the football. He’s taken big steps from year one to two. He’s in a system that plays to favorable down and distance. Much improved player.

Jaguars: Fundamentally sound team. It’s going to be  challenge.  We look for their DBs to challenge our receivers. This  game will be a lot more competitive than people realize.

Jordy out: Pre-game workout went very well, but then going back out on the field later, he just didn’t feel quite ready.

Mike McCarthy Pregame Show on 620 WTMJ:

Big Win: The best part is we were able to play a complete sixty minutes and excelled in all three phases of the game. Easily our best performance of the year.

Moving forward:   Consistency is a big part of our business. We’ve been able to do that in the past. it’s time for this 2012 team to do the same.

B Jones / Hayward: They both have practiced hard and are ready to go. Jones is extremely consistent and dependable and he has had a great week of practice. Casey keeps getting better with each opportunity. the game will dictate what we do but I look for both of these guys to play an important role.

Rams a year later: There’s a lot of things different. Their talent level has definitely increased. Their younger players and draft picks are playing well. Jeff Fisher is clearly one of the best coaches in our league.

Ram’s’ Defense: Good depth on the DL, very aggressive on the front seven. It’s a defense that will definitely challenge us today.

Bradford: He”s had a challenge of going through different systems. he’s now in a QB-friendly system that I think he can propser in.

RB Daryl Richards0n: From Abilene Christian – he’s explosive. Watched the Sunday night game against the Cardinals – he definitely jumped out at me.

3rd week on the road: Don’t get me wrong, it will be good to be home next week, but we don’t mind these 55 minute flights.

Mike McCarthy Pregame Show on 620 WTMJ:

Daughter’s 21st birthday: A big day and it makes me feel old.

Team’s psyche: They’re confidant and ready to go. We knew this was going to be a tough one when the schedule came out. We respect the Texans.  Sunday night is always an exciting time to play.  Our guys are ready to go.

Noise: Yes, this is going to be a great environment. It’s my first time in this stadium, the only one I haven’t been in. We practice a lot for these conditions

Practice: We’re always working on improv ing our practices. We aren’t making any excuses. Our practices this week, I was very pleased with the walk throughs and the meetings.

Raji out: Ryan Pickett has been playing some nose, so it’s not a problem. Our DL will be challenged today.

Finley: We’re not going to approach this game like he’s 100%. We need to be smart about it, so he’ll be on a rep count. Finley wants to play and is ready to try to play through this injury. Says a lot about him.

Texans: Very talented team, they play very well to their strengths. Important for us to knock them off their rhythm and off their spots. That’s our plan.

JJ Watt: Very talented young man. To be playing the position he’s playing and so well. As talented as any DE we’ve seen on tape.

Keys to the game: 1)turnover ratio.  2)Take advantage of big play opportunities.
