Al: It was a quiet week for Packers news, but some Packers players are slowly making their way back into Green Bay this week, as the team’s offseason conditioning program is set to begin on Monday. There will be two weeks of strictly conditioning work followed by 3 weeks of conditioning and individual instruction with position coaches. One of the players already in Green Bay is M.D. Jennings, the Packers backup safety who said he spoke with Nick Collins last week.

Jayme: With regards to Collins, Jennings echoed what others have said, that Collins says he feels great and really wants to resume his playing career. Assuming his doctors give him the OK, he’ll still have to convince the Packers medical staff and coaches to let him back on the field.

Al: Another guy itching to get on the field is Packers’ practice squad receiver Tori Gurley. Gurley is also back in Green Bay and recently made at appearance at the Sisters Bay Lions Club Youth Night. Gurley spoke on the virtues of hard work and told the kids he will be going all out to make the team and have a long career with the Packers.  Read more... Al:  Well, it looks like someone bought Ted Thompson a new alarm clock. While Ted normally spends this time of year sleeping through the free agency alarm, this year he has been wide awake and paying attention. As a result, there are three new Packers in town. Center Jeff Saturday was the first to sign on the dotted line, as Ted brought him in to replace Scott Wells while at the same time, saving almost $2million per year.

Jayme: Next up was defensive lineman Dan Muir. The former Packers undrafted free agent was with the Colts the last four years and signed a 1 year deal with Green Bay for $700,000.  Then in perhaps the most surprising move, The Packers signed defensive lineman Tony Hargrove, who was brought in at $825,000 for the year. Considering Pat Lee got $680,000 from the Raiders, Ted did very well here.

Al: Nick Collins met with his doctors on Monday to discuss the results of a barrage of tests he underwent the week before. Nothing has been discussed publicly except to say that Collins will be meeting with the Packers next week and that according to his agent, Collins “looks and feels great.”  Read more... Al:  The party’s over, folks. This magical carpet ride to the Super Bowl we all thought we were on came crashing down to earth last Sunday night. The near-flawless Packers offense looked human and out-of-sync for the first time and the defense, well it looked like the Packers defense.

Jayme: Yes, it was not an easy game to watch if you were a Packers fan. Both Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers said after the game that the four turnovers was a big reason for the loss. McCarthy summed it up by saying, “We didn’t play to our identity, “ meaning they lost the quarterback and turnover differential for the game. Rodgers simply said, “We got beat by a better team tonight.”

Al: Many Packers were left to ponder their futures with the team, but there’s one Packer who doesn’t know if he will ever play again – Nick Collins. Collins was optimistic when interviewed after the game. He will be examined again in March and said the decision is in the doctor’s hands. Cheesehead Radio News 1-5-12

Al: The lead story of the week has to be Matt Flynn. No matter how much of a Matt Flynn fan you were, you never could have anticipated the game that Flynn had.  Flynn set two Packers all-time franchise records, passing for 480 yards and throwing an amazing six touchdown passes. For his effort, Flynn was named the Air NFL Player of the week, an honor won six times this year by Aaron Rodgers and three times by Drew Brees. Not bad company for a backup quarterback.

John: Not at all, and as you might expect, it unleashed a firestorm of speculation and pondering among fans as to what the Packers will do with Flynn, who is an unrestricted free agent after this season. Will or should the Packers get max value for Flynn by franchising him and then trading him? Would they risk losing Jermichael Finley or Scott Wells by doing that? Or do they let Flynn walk and take the compensatory draft pick for him, which would probably be a third-rounder at best? CheeseheadRadio News:

Al : Well, there’s no doubt what the lead story is tonight. The Green Bay Packers no longer have a donut at the end of their record. The Packers suffered their first loss at the hands of the KC Chiefs after an ugly performance by the Packers while the Chiefs did everything right. The Packers finally met their trap team, ironically, just as C.D. stopped calling every game a trap game.

Jayme: As if losing wasn’t bad enough, the Packers offensive line was decimated during the game, adding injury to insult, so to speak. Bryan Bulaga left the game with a knee injury and then his replacement Derrick Sherrod, suffered a double leg fracture. The Packers quickly put Sherrod on Injured Reserve and signed street free agent Herb Taylor, a former backup with the Chiefs who hasn’t made a roster in 2 years. Bulaga will not be ready for the Bears, but Chad Clifton did some limited practicing today, so perhaps he may be available in the near future.  Read more... CheeseheadRadio News:

Al: Well, there are few things Packers fans enjoy more than a thorough drubbing of an NFC North rival like the Minnesota Vikings. As such, it’s been a rather joyous week in Packer Nation. The Packers offense was it’s usual self, the defense returned from the cave it had been hiding in and the special teams didn’t suck. Did I miss anything?

Jayme: I don’t think so Al, and the great thing about a blowout win is that it allows you to rest some players and give others some snaps. C.J. Wilson’s snap count increased, allowing heavily-used  BJ Raji to take a few breathers. Matt Flynn got 13 snaps behind center, while Vic So ‘oto and M.D. Jennings both saw their first significant action of the season, with 10 snaps each.

Al:  Switching over to some sad news, Packers legend Forest Gregg announced this week that he is suffering from Parkinson’s disease. Gregg, nicknamed “ironman” in his playing days, believes the numerous concussions he suffered in his playing career may be responsible for his condition. He hopes that going public with this information will raise awareness and help stimulate continued research. This is not Gregg’s first serious battle, as he has previously beaten melanoma in 1976 and colon cancer in 2001.
