Waived Packers Players Claimed by Other Teams

One measure of the strength of a team’s roster is how many of their waived players are claimed by other teams. Here’s a list of cut Packers players that have found themselves a spot on other teams’ 53-man rosters.

… There were no signings.

none, nil, naught, zero, zilch, nada, bupkus.

I guess there’s an exception to every rule…

Go Pack!

P.S. Tori Gurley reportedly has joined the Vikings practice squad. He’ll certainly have a much better chance of getting called up there, but having to were a blonde wig with braids? Don’t know if that works for him…

Dale Moss tweeted Sunday morning that he’s headed to the Tampa Bay Practice Squad.

AllGreenBayPackers.com Staff: Final 53-man Roster Predictions

Packers 53-Man Roster Predictions:

(Note: With regards to suspended player Erik Walden, our prognosticators had the option (as the Packers do) of either adding a 53rd player for week one or going with 52. If going with 52, then there can be no third year practice squad players (Anthony Levine and Graham Harrell are eligible). In either case, Walden will  not be used in our roster predictions. (nor will Mike Neal, suspended for four games to start the season)

Also, with regards to the IR exception approved today, the Packers can designate one player on IR to be eligible to come back after six weeks. If the Packers choose that person to be Desmond Bishop, then they have to temporarily put him back on the roster for the final 53 (cutting another player in the process). If they don’t designate Bishop in this way (indications are they won’t) then he does not have to be included on the 53 man roster.  Our selections will include him or not, based on that criteria.

Marques Eversoll: My Initial Packers 53-man Roster Prediction

Packers GM Ted Thompson

Ted Thompson has some tough decisions to make by Friday.

With the final cuts just around the corner, here are my initial predictions for how things may play out. There are a couple surprises, but overall, I think much of the roster is pretty much decided other than maybe two or three spots.

Although I assumed the Packers would keep six wide receivers all offseason, I simply no longer think that’s the case. Both Tori Gurley and Diondre Borel have been injured for part of training camp, and neither has made the same splash they made last summer at this time. I think they’ll both be let go, and the Packers will look to a different young wide receiver to stash on the practice squad.

Other than that, there aren’t too many surprises. So here goes…

Quarterback (2): Rodgers, Harrell

Although I don’t believe Graham Harrell is a No. 2 quarterback in the NFL right now, I think it’s more likely than not that the Packers will keep the position as is–with Harrell as Rodgers’s top backup. If a late-round pick could pry Colt McCoy away from the Cleveland Browns, Thompson would likely consider making that move. And despite Vince Young being an convenient punch-line for football fans, who would you rather have if you had to win a game without Rodgers: Young or Harrell? I’d take Young, and it’s not even remotely close. It’s highly unlikely that Thompson would bring in Young as a free agent, but then again, Ted hasn’t been typical “Ted” this offseason.

Adam Czech: My Initial Packers 53-man Roster Prediction

Packers 53-man Roster predictions

Ted Thompson stalking his prey – players for the final roster spots

As we approach the final preseason game of 2012, it’s time to take a first crack at predicting the Packers 53-man roster to start the season. Once the preseason game against the Chiefs is in the books, we will publish a table with predictions from the entire staff here at AllGreenBayPackers.com (so you can mock us all from one convenient place).

Depth is the most underrated aspect of a championship caliber football team. While we’re all focused on the quarterback (both the starter and backup) and other glamour positions, teams with championship aspirations are worrying about their fourth-string cornerback and backup offensive linemen. If a starter goes down, can someone step in and prevent everything from falling apart?

My 53-man prediction doesn’t differ much from Jersey Al’s, but that’s kind of what you get when predicting the 53-man for a team with Super Bowl aspirations. Don’t worry. I’m sure I’ll be embarrassingly wrong about a few of these, so there should be plenty of opportunity to mock and ridicule me.

Quarterback (2): Rodgers, Harrell

Unless it’s a conditional late-round pick, I’d rather stick with Harrell than trade for a retread backup QB. And keep Vince Young away from Wisconsin, please.

Running Back (5): Benson, Green, Starks, Saine, Kuhn

Chad Toporski: My Initial Packers 53-man Roster Prediction

Good luck to Ted Thompson as he whittles down the current Packers roster to 53 players.

We seem to say the same thing every year about the Green Bay Packers’ training camp roster: it’s going to be hard to make some of these cuts. There’s just so much talent across the positions, how do you decide who to keep? After looking at what Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy have done in the past, it’s becoming (slightly) easier to predict what they’re going to do in the future.

Before getting to the roster, here are the three big ideas I settled on in cutting down the roster:

  1. The Packers are going to keep five wide receivers. There are needs elsewhere, and none of the other receivers have really proven themselves to be worthy of an extra slot just for them.
  2. The defensive positions are deeper. Especially for the sake of special teams, I believe the Packers will skew their average numbers towards the defense this year.
  3. Some players are going to be stashed on the PUP/IR lists for next year. There’s a good amount of potential with some of the young players, but there’s a limited amount of space on the roster and practice squad.

Quarterback (2): Rodgers, Harrell

We tried to kid ourselves last year in thinking that they might keep three quarterbacks on the roster, but now we definitely know better.

Running Back (5): Benson, Green, Starks, Saine, Kuhn
